BARRACK AND MICHELLE OBAMA SAYING GOOD BYE TO THE WHITE HOUSE
When the Obamas pack up and move out of the White House in six weeks, they’re saying goodbye — for good.
While answering questions from kids, First Lady Michelle Obama — who is interviewed alongside husband President Barack Obama for this week’s PEOPLE cover story — decisively ended speculation that she’d ever vie for the nation’s highest office.
No, I’m not gonna run for president,” FLOTUS responded to 8-year-old Absalon’s inquiry, after the president joked that the query sounded “prompted.”
The first lady continued, “No, I’m not gonna run for president, but what I want to make sure you do is that you go to school, you get good grades, because we’re looking to you to possibly be a president one day, too.”
“But you can’t do that if you don’t study and do your homework and listen to your parents,” she advised, before adding, “But we’re out.”
President Obama gave similar advice to 5-year-old Amira, who wanted to know how to make it to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
“The most important thing is for you to work hard, and to study in school and to care about people and to start helping them,” POTUS said. “If you are caring about other people and treating them well then you may end up being president some day.”
